This website is intended for all those who have serious interest in issues related to Biblical theology and who are willing to read and think about what the Bible actually says while holding their biases and presuppositions in reasonable check. Every thinker has presuppositions . . . none think nor hold positions without them. One of the basic presuppositions held by me and JSM, Inc. is that the sacred Scriptures are “verbally and plenarily inspired” by God the Holy Spirit in the original autographs and that with the plethora of manuscripts available to Biblical scholars for years, we essentially have God’s Word to men available to us in our Bible translations. In basic translation, I believe that all data should be considered which includes the Greek texts of both the so-called “Critical Text” (UBS or Nestle) and the Majority Text (edited by Farstad and Hodges). I personally use the Greek and Hebrew texts (I use the latter effectually, but it is not my main strength; my strength is in NT Greek since I have taught NT Greek on the graduate level (seminaries) for over 20 years including Beginning Greek, Intermediate Greek, Advanced Greek Grammar, and Rapid Greek Reading.) English translations that I use with qualified confidence include the NKJV, the NIV, the NASB, and the ESV. I have little confidence in the Net Bible (although I know many of the translators and they are fine Christian scholars). God gave me the privilege of translating The Epistle to the Romans in the NKJV, under the editorship of the late Dr. Art Farstad and I taught Romans in Greek for many years at Grace Theological Seminary (Winona Lake, IN).
It will be my purpose to
author articles on many issues of theology that have become and remain
controversial over many years. In addition, the reader will find articles on
theological issues that perhaps have not been thought about very much before and
it is my hope that these articles will help the reader as he advances in
“eternal life,” which began at the time of regeneration by the Holy Spirit and
continues in the gaining of knowledge of our heavenly Father and His Son, our
Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ according to
John 17:3,
where our Lord defines “eternal life.” Courteous and responsible responses to
these articles are welcome. I will have neither the time nor inclination to
engage in argumentative debates. I will respond on rare occasions as time
permits and such responses seem absolutely necessary.
Bible exposition, with a strong background in the Biblical languages and syntactical exegesis, has been the heart and soul of my ministry ever since God called me out of the engineering profession and sent me to seminary. That call remains upon my life and as President of John Sproule Ministries, Inc. (JSM, Inc.) I remain engaged in Bible conference expositions around the nation (sometimes internationally), Biblical seminars, adjunct professorships as they become available, publication of a bi-monthly Newsletter, and pulpit supply ministry, and writing.
Much of my academic life has been devoted to the exegesis and teaching of the Epistle to the Hebrews and the Epistle to the Romans. As this website is used, I expect to learn as well as teach.
